Default how are the kia souls?

long story short, i'm a seventeen year old teenage planning to buy my first car as a graduation gift. a brand new car, i originally was looking into used cars..but the prices out here are just the same as getting a new base model car so that's just what were going to due instead of going through the hastle of a used car breaking down on us after spending $12,000 - $13,000 when we can just buy a brand new kia or hyundai and get a nice warranty. basically, ive been car shopping around..looking at hyundais, kias, toyotas..but i've fallen for the kia soul. i like that SUV, hatchback style, and i'd get it in black. but my major concern is i know kia has been known for there unreliability in the past, but i know these days there cars are becoming a lot more durable and reliable for such a nice cheap price compared to other companies. basically i wanted to know of anyones experiences or could help me out if its a good idea buying a new kia soul? also, i'm a boy. im not sure if this is a girly-ish car, i've seen some guys drive it..it depends what color really. but idk, help me out?

Well, first of all the Soul is a safe car according to NHTSA getting four out of five stars overall and getting five stars in side crash tests. And it's one of IIHS's top safety pick.
People's bias against Kia is showing.

Kia's have come a long way thanks in part to Hyundai who owns them. Hyundai is considered one of the better automakers nowadays and Kia is following in their footsteps.
The Soul is too new to say how long it will last but the improvements have been steady year after year to the point of respectability; so I wouldn't have a problem getting a Kia. In fact I love the Optima.

There really isn't such a thing as man or woman cars. If you like it, get it.
