Default Rising Temperature

My 2005 Hyundai Accent GT has an issue with the temperature rising. As long as it's moving down the road, it's fine. But if I go very far, say 18 miles, then stop and sit for a few minutes, the temp gauge rises really fast. I have to either kill the car or turn the heater on full blast and start driving again. Looking online, I see that it has not one, but two fan motors. Any body have any ideas? My son said it's possible the radiator may need to be flushed.
