Default Engine is dying on Hyundai Santa Fe?

I have a Hyundai Sante Fe, 66,000 mi. monthly oil changes/taken care of- engine is dying. Check engine light is on and stalled 3 times yesterday while driving, and would not start back up. Because the car is a 2004 and has less than 80,000 mi. I cannot understand why this would happen...If it is the engine, what would be suggestions as to what i should do next...Trade in or repair if covered by warranty (which they say could take month to look into and put into system) Also, when this happens do they give out rentals to use while being fixed?
